'We haven't learned anything at all'
Sirivat Voravetvuthikun is probably the highest-profile sandwich hawker in Thai history. A graduate in finance from the University of Texas in Austin, he got into the world of finance as a manager at Asia Securities before quiting to become a stock and property high-flyer who managed several billion baht worth of property projects.
When his huge condominium project went bust, he turned to selling sandwiches, saying he didn't mind starting all over again from scratch. The transformation was so striking that he became a combination poster boy and folk hero of the crisis years.
Today, he owns three coffee shops called Coffee Corner by Sirivat Sandwich and offers a variety of product lines under the same brand. And yes, he plans to list his company on the Market for Alternative Investment in the next two years.
